Yes – we need volunteers to help us with a 2 to 3 hour shift for the Post 1776 4th of July celebration! Please sign up on the sheet in the Legion (just ask if you don’t see it), or call Linsey at 952-431-1776. Thanks for helping out.
We are also looking for Korea war veterans to ride in the parade cars for Post 1776. If you are a Korean War veteran or know of one, please contact Linsey at 952-431-1776.
<The BYTR news article did not make it into the June newsletter, so we are posting it here and adding it to the online newsletter later today>
The Beyond the Yellow Ribbon Network of Apple Valley exists to serve military personnel – both those currently serving and Veterans – and their families, by assisting them any way we can. Your help and support has been and continues to be very much appreciated! Please join us by contributing your time and talents, using the special abilities you have.
Some recent examples of how we have served:
This past month we have provided a food card to a Veteran and his family in need; helped another Veteran with a utility bill; and another Veteran trying to get home to western Minnesota. If you know of a military family needing help, or you or another Veteran needing assistance, please contact us 952-923-5014.
At our Military Appreciation Dinner in May we honored Commander Carla as she successfully completed her 3-year term. She has been a wonderful friend of the Beyond the Yellow Ribbon, and we wish her well in her next position. Over 130 joined us to hear great words from Mayor Mary.
The next Appreciation Dinner is August 16th. Note there are no dinners in June or July. We partner with the Legion to provide excellent meals, which the BTYR serves to Veterans for a voluntary donation. Preregistration is encouraged so we don’t run out of food. Just RSVP at email@example.com or leave a message on our phone at 952-923-5014. All dinners are at the Apple Valley American Legion Post 1776.
We honored High School graduates who entering Military Service at Apple Valley and East View High Schools. At two separate ceremonies we had the pleasure of honoring 29 grads who have enlisted in all branches of the Service.

We had a great Memorial Day ceremony on Monday the 28th honoring those who gave so much so that we could remain free. Post 1776 in Apple Valley is the 2nd largest American Legion Post in Minnesota, and we have some the nicest people and veterans right here at our post. It was a touching ceremony today. Very touching. I want to thank all who attended and presented. Thanks to Lloyd Cybart who did such a fantastic job organizing the event (as he has done in past years).
And a very big thank you to our out going Commander, Carla Osness Tappainer who is now our 3rd District Commander. You will be missed at the Post. And also a big thank you to the City of Apple Valley for your support.
Tonight’s dinner is the last one for a couple of months and was well attended. 130 attended though 109 had RSVP’d ahead of the dinner. Still, everyone was accommodated.
Our Commander Carla Tappainer is stepping down after leading Post 1776 for the previous three years. We’ve seen many changes at the post including the hiring of a professional General Manager in Linsey Green who is doing a fantastic job.
Our kitchen is profitable and the comments we get here through the web site and through Google all point to one of the best places for Veterans and their families to come to for some fellowship, good food and music.
Carla was honored at the dinner tonight by the City of Apple Valley (Mayor Mary presented the honor) and by Beyond the Yellow Ribbon for her selfless service to Post 1776. We will miss your leadership Carla but we know you’ll still be around.
We wish you all the best in your role leading the Legions 3rd District. All the best.
