Greetings to Everyone!
Well, I think spring is finally here!! All the trees are budding and tulips are coming up!! I’m so thankful for this time of year!! Everything is new, fresh and clean!! Speaking of being clean…we have scheduled a clean-up day here at the Legion on May 20th! If it’s raining, we will do it the 21st. I need a volunteer to organize the day since some of us will be at the 3rd District Convention that day. Please call me if you are willing to help with that. We plan on doing a general cleaning of everything….power-washing the pavilion and patio, washing windows, picking up garbage and anything else that we can see that needs to be done. I will be getting the boy scouts to help out also. It would be nice to get this all done before the 4th of July!!
Dates to keep in mind are May 20th for the 3rd District Convention in New Prague and July 13th – 15th for the Department Convention in Mahnomen at the Shooting Star Casino. There is also another event that you should consider attending and that would be the MN American Legion Training that will take place June 23rd – 25th at Legionville. There is no cost for this and you can stay right there for no charge. This is for all members who would like to learn more about being part of the leadership for the Legion. I will put a link to the registration form on our website or you can contact me and I will print one out for you if you don’t have a computer.
Don’t forget about elections this month! We need everyone to come vote!! Make sure you bring your current dues card with you. I’m in need of a 2nd Vice Commander for this upcoming year. Right now we don’t have anyone in line for that position. We will also be taking nominations for all offices before the meeting on May 16th.
The 4th of July will be here before you know it! Tickets for the raffle will be ready to sell very soon. Remember, this is our biggest fundraiser for the year so we really need to sell as many as possible. If you want to sell tickets to earn your dues for next year, you must sell 75 tickets! You have to check out all 75 at once so we can keep track of them. It was just too hard to do when people were taking 10 or 20 at time to sell. We will also need a ton of volunteers for that day and I’m looking for a Grand Marshall. If you know of anyone who we should honor that day, let me know.
We are getting close to starting the new Disabled American Veterans group here at the Legion. I’m working closely with the State and National leaders to get this going. If you are interested, please contact me to get your name on the list.
We are still looking for a kitchen manager! Keep your ears open for anyone you think would be a good fit for the Legion!
