From Bill Quintus:
I was informed yesterday that Al Lilga, our long time Color Guard/Honor Guard Member has passed away. He apparently died in his sleep at The Legacy of Farmington Assisted Living Facility in Farmington, in the apartment he shared with his wife Elaine.
The Apple Valley American Legion Post 1776 Color Guard/Honor Guard stands ready to support Elaine and family in the best traditions we can and requested by the family. Al was a friend to all of us, a fellow Veteran & Legionnaire and a long-time Member of our Post Color Guard/Honor Guard. He will be dearly missed.
Al was our American Flag bearer. His honorable service to our Country, his pride as an Army Soldier and his determination to fly Old Glory straight and tall as a Member of our Squad, is a testament to his love for our Country, respect for fellow Veterans and hope for our continued freedoms. He loved carrying our American Flag and he made us all proud as he marched, stood tall at Present Arms, and retired the flag with all the honor it deserves. Al was our American Flag bearer.
To each of you, I pass along my deepest condolences, we lost a Brother at Arms and a dear friend.
We’ll pass along additional information on Services for Al as we are notified. If requested by family, I hope all of you will be honored to participate in this American Heroes’ final goodbye.
